Essential Functions:
The Director of Student Activities will be responsible for providing leadership and management of programs and activities that promote student growth in a student learning environment:

  • Guide the Associated Student Government (ASG) to promote innovative strategies that involve students in campus events, programs, and activities;

  • Promote leadership and other personal growth opportunities for students through participation in ASG government and clubs and student leadership training programs;

  • Provide leadership and supervision to assure proper control of ASG funds;

  • Oversee the coordination of student activities, including game room operations, student identification card systems, and campus clubs;

  • Promote and expand service learning opportunities, oversee commencement, and assist in the administration of student discipline;

  • Administer and promote awareness of college policies and regulations including those that pertain to free speech, distribution of literature, and student due process;

  • Provide leadership to develop and implement programming that acknowledges, honors, and respects campus diversity;

  • Develop, modify, assess, and evaluate program goals and objectives;

  • Develop, monitor, and manage department and program budgets;

  • Review staffing needs for full-time and part-time personnel and make recommendations for hiring;

  • Conduct performance evaluations for classified staff;

  • Review and analyze data and statistics for the purpose of improving the delivery of services to students;

  • Ensure compliance with California Education Code and the California Code of Regulations;

  • Administer Board approved policies and regulations, especially as they relate to the departments and programs under the supervision of the Dean of Student Services;

  • Develop and monitor program reviews for department/programs including student learning and program outcomes and assessments to improve student learning;

  • Foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness that will promote collaboration among students, faculty, and staff;

  • Facilitate and encourage professional staff development;

  • Work closely with the Office of Institutional Research in order to effectively assess and evaluate programs and services;

  • Organize and chair meetings, facilitate group discussions and involve students, faculty, and staff in idea generation, goal setting, and decision-making;

  • Make presentations as necessary to various groups within the district, community, and state;

  • Assist in the advancement of the institution's vitality and growth; and

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned masters degree from an accredited college or university; AND
  • One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators administrative assignment; OR
  • Possession of a valid California Community College Supervisory Credential.
  • All candidates must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Two years of administrative and leadership experience as a program director, department head, or coordinator within or associated with student services;
  • Experience reasonably related to the assignment focusing on student development and leadership in a multicultural environment;
  • Experience interpreting and administering student services policies, administrative guidelines, and procedures that include standards of student conduct, student due process, distribution of literature, and free speech;
  • Experience building and sustaining volunteer and service learning opportunities for students;
  • Ability to develop, modify, implement program plans, policies, and administrative guidelines;
  • Ability to engage students in student government, campus clubs, and student activities;
  • Ability or experience in the administration of student discipline;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies in a participatory governance environment; and
  • Knowledge of colleges missions and goals.


Conditions of Employment:
224 duty days and 22 vacation days for a total of 246 days

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $104,906 $132,196 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.From the applicants who submit all the required documents and who meet the qualifications, a selection advisory committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions. Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the recommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Student Services and President for final interviews.
