Work Schedule: Primarily day/weekday schedule. However, evening and/or weekends may be required as needed.


Job Description:

Patrick Henry Community College is seeking a full time Education/Early Childhood faculty member. The successful candidate must be a professional committed to the mission of the comprehensive community college and capable of working with a diverse student population. The successful candidate will be dedicated to academic excellence and continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and will be able to thrive in a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The candidate must be willing to work at times and locations as needed. Start date is August 16, 2021.


Responsibilities include to:

  • Provide excellent instruction in early childhood and education courses by designing and implementing effective teaching and learning practices
  • Serve as an active and connected academic advisor for students in early childhood and teacher education programs
  • Maintain office hours according to VCCS policy
  • Maintain records of student performance
  • Prepare and/or assist in the development of course materials including course syllabi, online material, textbook selections, course objectives, and assessment instruments
  • Participate in scheduled in-service activities
  • Maintain professional competencies by upgrading skills, attending professional meetings, seminars, and/or workshops, and working professionally with other faculty across campus
  • Serve on various college committees as assigned
  • Assist in the evaluation of early childhood and education courses and programs for efficacy and curricular relevance
  • Work closely and effectively with higher education partners


This is a 9-month faculty position.


Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and related experience; plus excellent benefits package.

Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA’s/Required Qualifications:

Graduate degree in early childhood education, child development, family studies, or a related discipline with at least 18 graduate early childhood credits. Experience teaching in or leading early learning programs or working in the early childhood education field. The successful candidate must possess a commitment to active and engaging teaching, the development and delivery of quality web-based courses, and serving the needs of a diverse student body. Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal and organizational skills required along with good recommendations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NAEYC accreditation.
  • Possess a state teaching license.
  • Higher education teaching experience.


Required Travel: Within service region to instructional/clinical sites primarily.
