General Purpose
Under general supervision, supports the Public Information Office with the production of outreach, branding and academic information targeted primarily to students via social media and mass email campaigns; maintains social media accounts and website pages; creates visual, video and text-based communications; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees, monitors and creates content for the college's student social media networks; engages with social media platform users to create a positive brand message for the college;
  • Tracks content coverage and accuracy, frequency of postings and public responses; monitors all user-generated content in line with District policies for the digital community.
  • Develops and maintains student email communications and e-notification programs; develops and maintains student database reporting systems for targeted communication.
  • Interacts with college faculty, students, staff, alumni and other stakeholders to develop social media projects targeting incoming and current students.
  • Writes copy and produces original photographic and video content for social media posts and emails.
  • Sets and meets project deadlines and develops production schedules; analyzes marketing requests for feasibility of design, budget and time constraints.
  • Coordinates with other staff to research, develop, design and direct the email and social media campaigns for the recruitment of students and staff.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments and trends in social media and production software and techniques.
  • Coordinates with the District or outside photographers and videographers and/or purchases stock photography when required; collects, organizes and maintains photo and video releases or proper content licenses.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of historically minoritized groups and participates in professional development activities to increase cultural competency to enhance equity-minded practices within the District.

  • Attends college events as required to capture relevant content.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards / Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Advanced knowledge of email marketing and social media trends, platforms, publishing and tracking procedures.
  • Uses and operations of web content management systems and associated HTML.
  • Industry standard graphic design software including page layout, photo manipulation and enhancement, vector illustration, web page layout, word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Web site and web page accessibility requirements to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disability Act.
  • Digital photographic and video cameras and related techniques, as well as editing and publishing software.
  • Practices and techniques of sound business communication; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Recordkeeping techniques.
  • District policies and procedures regarding branding guidelines and consistency.
  • Uses and operations of scanners, phone systems, computers, standard business software, and database and spreadsheet applications.

Skills and Abilities to:
  • Use digital photographic and video production equipment.
  • Take, select, edit, label and crop digital photographs and videos for online use.
  • Exercise artistic skill in conceptualizing, designing and laying out visually appealing email and social media materials.
  • Interpret information and situations, create artistic photographic and video content and make recommendations in accordance with sound design, layout and composition principles and applicable policies and guidelines.
  • Apply writing styles and techniques appropriate for differing audiences and purposes.
  • Organize, set priorities and exercise sound, independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
  • Complete large and small projects to meet customer needs and deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal customers simultaneously.
  • Operate a computer, standard business software and advanced graphics, design, editing, presentation and desktop publishing software.
  • Understand copyright law and privacy issues.
  • Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in communications, marketing, graphic arts, visual communication or a related field, and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, branding or professional commercial visual communication design and production; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program.

Employees are frequently required to walk and stand and lift up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work; work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work with frequent interruptions; work under intensive deadlines; and interact with District managers, staff, the public and others encountered in the course of work.

Employees work in typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet. Employees occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions.
