GENERAL INFORMATION: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. With campuses in Chester and Midlothian in the metropolitan Richmond area and at off-campus classrooms throughout the area, John Tyler Community College provides quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead a team that provides a college-wide instructional technology and faculty professional development program; Coordinate instructional technology planning and assessment at the college; Coordinate online learning at the College; Work with and train faculty on designing, revising, and updating face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses; Support JTCC's participation with Quality Matters, the Online Virginia Network, the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, and other programs, as appropriate.



Required: Master's degree; Significant coursework or training in instructional technology; Proficiency in use of learning management systems such as Canvas; Knowledge of best practices in online education; Minimum of one year of teaching experience, including online and/or technology-based course development and delivery; Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills; Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff in the use of instructional technology and course development. Successful completion and passing of a background check is required for employment.

Preferred: Experience in Community College setting; Supervising and leading a team of diverse professionals; Understanding of effective instructional design principles and strategies and ability to stay current with emerging pedagogical practices, especially those supported by technology; Knowledge of innovative distance learning methods and equipment and online course development, webpage design, and other software applications; Working with Quality Matters; Designing, delivering, evaluating, assessing and managing faculty professional development.


*All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.
